Reine de Saba – chocolate and almond cake


This cake is very special for me as my grandmother used to do it EVERY weekend. Also know as Queen of Sheba or “Chocolate and almond cake”. The almond brings a nice taste and makes it super soft.


  • 3 eggs
  • 125 g butter
  • 125 g dark chocolate
  • 120 g sugar
  • 45 g flour
  • 60 g almond powder
  • Few drops of vanilla extract


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C.
  2. Melt the butter in the microwave.
  3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave.
  4. Mix the butter and the chocolate, let it cool a bit.
  5. Add the egg yolks one by one, mix between.
  6. Add the sugar, the almond powder, vanilla extract and finally the flour.
  7. Beat the egg whites and delicately fold them into the batter.
  8. Butter a cake pan and pour the batter into it.
  9. Bake around 35 min or until set (test with a sharp knife). It depends on the shape of pan you are using.
