This is the traditional recipe of my grandmother (the best cook I have ever known) and everyone in my family is crazy about them. They particularly love them with coffee. ☕ They are super basic and simple but the butter flavour is just perfect!
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 250g plain white flour
- 80g butter
- 80g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla aroma
- 1 tsp baking powder
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 200 ° C.
- Mix the sugar with the egg for at least 10 min, it should rise and double in proportion.
- Add the softened butter (not totally melted but creamy) and the vanilla aroma.
- Then add the flour and the baking powder.
- Knead the dough until you can shape it into a ball. Don’t knead too much, just what is necessary.
- Roll the dough on your floured kitchen worktop. Around 5mm thick.
- Cut out the dough with cookie cutters or if you don’t have any just use a glass.
- Place the biscuits on an oven tray covered with baking paper.
- Optional: brush the biscuits with egg yolk, it will make them golden and shiny. I personally prefer the matt result. 😉
- Bake them in the oven for 10min. Get them out as soon as it becomes a bit golden, don’t wait more or they won’t be as good!
- Let them cool down for 5 min.
